COMPOSITION

 
Each tablet of 600 mg contains:
Griseofulvin microzised              250 mg
Excipients s.q.f.                       1 tablet

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

It is an antifungal drug, which is absorbed at gastrointestinal level after its administration; it is incorporated into the hair shaft, nails and skin.  The concentration of griseofulvin in the cells of epidermis, provides antifungal activity against dermatophytes fungi that affect the skin and hair.

INDICATIONS

Griseofulvin is indicated to treat dermatomycosis caused by Microsporum canis, M. gypseum y Tricophitum mentagrophytes.

ANIMAL SPECIES

Dogs and cats.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Dogs and cats: 20 – 50 mg/kg daily in divided doses at least during 4 to 6 weeks; except in case of Ornicomicosis that the treatment must be made during 6 to 12 months. Griseofulvin is absorbed orally better when it is administered with high fat food and diminishes the vomit possibility.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Not to administer to pregnant females.
Not to administer jointly with phenilbutazona, anticoagulants and phenobarbital.

Side effects:

Griseofulvin may cause nausea and decreased appetite in animals, photosensitivity and hepatotoxicity.
